Reflection:
For most American's, social acceptance is incredibly important because getting along with the social norms makes them feel important and normal. And one of the most common things for, mostly teenagers to hide from, is their sexuality and whether they are gay, bi sexual, heterosexual, etc. The reason behind hiding, is because of societies expectation for all people to be heterosexual. People think that because that is "normal" and that is how we will continue to have a growing population. The idea that people who are not "straight" have to "stay in the closet" relates to the famous Jack Kerouac quote that says, "This is the story of America. Everybody's doing what they think they're supposed to do". All of these members of the LGBTQ community want to be a part of the normal "story" of America because they are "supposed" to be straight. And that is what happened to Morgana Bailey. She hid who she was for sixteen years, due to the fear that her coworkers, family and friends would only think of her as "my lesbian friend Morgana" or"my lesbian coworker Morgana." But after sixteen years, Morgana returned to the city where she found her true self, sixteen years earlier, and admitted to the public and the people in her life, about who she really is and how, just because it's not societies "norm", that doesn't mean that it shouldn't be. When it comes to finding yourself and being yourself there is not "supposed to" or "should"- you are who you are and that's what makes America so exciting- all of the different kinds of people that inhabit this country.
