Reflection:
Freedom of Speech in the US is protected by the first amendment to the US Constitution and by many state constitutions and state and federal laws. However, although the Bill of Rights have Freedom of Speech as a law that is supposedly protected for all American citizens, there are variations of the law and there have been national issues regarding judges and other figures of the law, not abiding by this law. Jack Kerouac once said "This is the story of America. Everybody's doing what they think they're supposed to do." Part of the story of America is that we are supposed to be free to speech and thoughts. "Live Free or Die" is the New Hampshire motto, but if that is the case, then how come people all around the country are shamed for speaking their mind. In this painting by Norman Rockwell, the man dressed not in a business suit and looks to be a member of the middle working class, stands to speak his mind and get looks from people, who clearly do not think that he should be speaking at that point, even though it is a part of the story of america and it is the way that it is "supposed" to be in America.
