Reflection:
Many people are victims of prejudice thoughts, and not even on purpose but because of because of how they are told to think and what they hear around them. I know that, growing up on the seacoast of New Hampshire, I don't know much about the actual population and lives of Africans other than about tribes and very very poor villages that we hear about on the news. Chimamanda Adichie tells her story of coming to Drexel University in the United States, from Nigeria, when she was nineteen. The first thing she tells in her Ted Talk is how when she arrived at the University, her American roommate was shocked that Chimamanda was able to speak perfect English, she having not known that the primary language of Nigeria is indeed, English. Her roommate was also surprised that Adichie was able to use a stove because as Jack Kerouac says "This is the story of America. Everybody's doing what they think they're supposed to do" and one of those things that a lot of people think is that Africans are all incapable of functioning on their own in America. However, that is not the case and Americans need to open their eyes and open their minds and stop thinking common thoughts because they are "supposed" to think these things, but educate themselves on what the real world is truly like.
