Reflection:
For most American Thanksgivings, the common holiday will consist of siblings coming home from school, mom cooking, grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles coming from all other. Mom in her white apron and dad in a suit, as mom cooks and dad watches and socializes with guests. The days events are then followed to my loud dinners filled with laughter, old stories, maybe a grandfather or uncle drinking a little bit too much wine and using some curse words during the stories. As Jack Kerouac says "This is the story of America. Everybody's doing what the think they're supposed to do"- and this picture envisions the "perfect" American family and Thanksgiving dinner. Mom is "supposed" to cook and the kids are "supposed" to dress in their nicest clothes and the distant family is "supposed to come" because that is the "story of America". Norman Rockwell was able to illustrate the common idea that this is what Thanksgiving in America is "supposed" to look like and how it is "supposed" to feel because when someone looks at this painting, they will remember their last Thanksgiving with their entire family and it'll make them feel nostalgic about those perfect days with the family.
